Support for Chumukedima protest
29th February, 2016
ACAUT Nagaland stands behind the business community and frontal organizations of Chumukedima area and their call for downing of shutters on 29th February, 2016 on account of the shooting of two businessmen for non-payment of tax demand is fully justified. ACAUT Nagaland would like to stress that on 13th February 2014, the Chumukedima area represented by the CCCTA, CTMA, CTYO, CSU, CTU, GBs, NGOs and churches had adopted One Government One Tax and had also resolved that any trader violating the resolution of non-payment of tax to any of the factions shall be expelled from their jurisdiction. Accordingly, two traders were expelled from Chumukedima for violating the public resolution of 13th Feb 2014.
Against this background, the shooting of the two traders for non-payment of tax is not only a law and order situation but akin to spitting on the 13th Feb 2014, public resolution for which ACAUT condemns the willful insult. Unless the demand of the Chumukedima organizations is met, ACAUT will have no other option but to resort to calling for shutter down protest on a wider scale.
