Press release – Gratitude to volunteers and picketers.
15th July, 2016
The ACAUT Nagaland extends its gratitude to the volunteers and picketers who came out in the streets and expressed their displeasure at the manner in which the government is handling the fuel adulteration issue, with special emphasis to picketers in Phek and Kohima towns. Fuel adulteration is a multi-crore menace which has destroyed a section of our economy and the citizens of Phek, Kohima and Dimapur has aptly led by example. The picketing is just a warm-up call carried out with small band of volunteers. But thousands of angry and frustrated citizens are etching to get into the streets and it’s just a matter of time before the ACAUT too succumbs to public pressure - highway bandh, shutter down strike are some of the options, in which case the government will be solely responsible for any untoward incidents on account of the government having kept silent for 16 long days without having taken any remedial measure.
The Dimapur police are lauded for arresting 4 of the 5 kingpins, namely, Dinanath, Srikanth, Umesh, and Nawal. However, the below-par statement of the F&CS Secretary in the newspapers has only added fuel to the fire since he essentially said nothing. It is also laughable to note that the Secretary said FIRs have been registered by the police when in fact it was the ACAUT which did so, including one against his own department as well which he conveniently forgot to mention.
